Ring Use & Care

Built for everyday wear, guided by best practice

Virtusan Ring 360 is designed to be worn day and night so you can capture consistent, meaningful patterns over time. This page explains how smart rings work, how to get accurate readings, and how to use and care for your ring safely as part of a long-term longevity routine.

How Smart Rings Measure Your Health

Optical sensing (PPG)

Most smart rings use optical sensors that shine light into the skin and measure changes in light absorption caused by blood-volume shifts. This is the foundation for estimating heart rate, and—when processed over time—HRV and related insights.

Motion + context

Accelerometers (and related sensors) help infer steps, activity, sleep timing, and sleep patterns by detecting movement and rest cycles. (Sleep staging and readiness are model-based estimates that improve with consistent wear.)

SpO₂ and readiness

SpO₂ is typically derived from optical signals and algorithms; readiness scores combine sleep, recovery, and stress-related signals into a daily snapshot. (These are wellness insights, not medical diagnoses.)

Best Practices for Accurate Readings

Fit matters more than you think

  • Wear the ring snug but comfortable (it should not rotate freely).
  • If your finger is cold, readings can degrade—warm hands often improve signal quality.
  • For consistency, wear it on the same finger most days.

Timing: consistency beats intensity

Smart rings become more valuable the more consistent the baseline is. Daily wear helps the system detect changes (sleep debt, stress load, recovery dips) rather than just isolated numbers.

What can affect accuracy

  • High-motion workouts (gripping, vibration, rapid hand movement)
  • Poor fit or sweat trapped under the ring
  • Cold hands / reduced peripheral circulation
  • Tattoos or skin conditions near sensors (if applicable)

Safe Wearing Guidance

Skin comfort and irritation

If you notice redness, itching, or rash:

  • Remove the ring, clean and dry both ring and skin, and let the area recover.
  • Reduce continuous wear temporarily (e.g., remove during showers/workouts).
  • If irritation persists, stop use and consult a clinician. Wearable makers commonly recommend discontinuing use if irritation occurs.

Skin irritation can also be linked to moisture/sweat buildup or individual sensitivity to metals/finishes.

Training & heavy gripping

For safety and comfort, consider removing the ring during:

  • Heavy lifting (bars, dumbbells), strong gripping machine work
  • Handling hard/heavy objects that could trap the ring against the finger

This precaution is consistent with guidance published for other smart rings to reduce injury risk.

Medical considerations

Consult a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Have an implanted electronic medical device (e.g., pacemaker)
  • Have photosensitive epilepsy (relevant if you use other Virtusan light devices)
  • Have severe circulatory conditions affecting finger blood flow
  • Are under treatment where continuous wearable monitoring may cause anxiety or obsessive checking

Water, Sweat, and “Real Life” Exposure

Water & dust resistance (IP68)

IP ratings indicate dust and water resistance under controlled conditions. IP68 commonly refers to dust-tight protection and water resistance to specific depth/time limits defined by the manufacturer.

Important: water resistance can decrease over time with wear, impacts, and exposure to chemicals like chlorine/salt.

Practical rules

  • Rinse and dry after sweat, sea, or pool exposure
  • Avoid prolonged contact with soaps, detergents, perfumes, and solvents
  • Dry skin under the ring to prevent irritation

Charging & Battery Safety

Charging habits that protect longevity

  • Charge on a stable surface, away from heat sources
  • Don’t charge if the device is wet
  • If the ring becomes unusually hot, stop charging and contact support

General battery safety guidance for wearables emphasizes avoiding heat and physical damage.

Wireless / Bluetooth safety

Wearables use low-power wireless (typically Bluetooth Low Energy). Regulators like the FCC discuss RF exposure and SAR limits for wireless devices, and research on wearables and BLE operation generally indicates exposure levels within established safety limits.

Cleaning & Care

Daily cleaning (recommended)

  • Remove the ring
  • Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth
  • Dry thoroughly before wearing again
  • Keep the sensor area clean for best readings

Deep cleaning (weekly)

  • Mild soap and water on a cloth (not soaking)
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals
  • Ensure the ring is fully dry before charging

A Note on Health Claims

Virtusan Ring 360 is a wellness device designed to support self-awareness and better decisions. It can help you identify patterns (sleep debt, stress load, recovery trends), but it is not a medical device and should not be used to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease.
